Amit : What are the new changes in Michigan auto insurance. Would it make any difference in online auto insurance quotes for this state when one tries to get low auto insurance rates?

Response : Just recently as on the 17th December 2009, The House passed a portion of a bill package focused which according to the insurance industry will have disastrous consequences on auto insurance costs and the stability of the insurance market, including a prohibition on credit-based insurance scoring.

Now let me explain this to you in more details. As per the bill, the insurance companies will not be permitted to have a credit based rating. This would be an advantage for the customer since now they can go for online auto insurance quotes without anything to worry about and get multiple quotes since their credit score is not at all affected. Now to be very honest it is a myth that your credit score is affected and please see my post on credit rating and online auto insurance.

The insurance companies are not happy with this since now they will not be able to use the credit based rating system. As per the insurance companies the credit based rating helped them in giving low auto insurance to the clients. Credit-based insurance scoring has been shown to benefit consumers because it allows them to secure lower insurance costs. In Michigan, credit-based insurance scoring is used only to provide discounts for insurance customers. Credit-based insurance scores are not used in Michigan to apply a surcharge or to determine whether a person can be insured by the company. And despite the economy, credit scores are staying stable.

Auto and homeowner insurers doing business in Michigan have formed a coalition, Protecting Michigan’s Future, to defeat this misguided, anti-consumer legislation; promote comprehensive, cost-saving reform solutions; provide information to policymakers for making sound public policy decisions; and set the record straight on insurance practices.

My own recommondation to you is to go for online auto insurance quotes, you will get low car insurance rates for sure and find what suits you best with the online quotes without having to worry about any privacy information since this is free and the insurance companies should abide to the privacy acts.

Jason Potash : Everyone talks about online auto insurance quotes to get low car insurance rates? Will this really work in 2010- or is it advisable?

Response : Getting online auto insurance quote is a really tricky decision to make but it is not a matter of real worry, once few things are kept in mind, you can easily seek an online auto insurance quote. Let me tell you that you can do it since you have only one goal or focus in mind getting a low car insurance rates. If you go to an agent he is thinking of getting you the best car insurance coverage but still focusing on his own best commission rate. This is natural since this is his bread and butter. We are lead by our preferences in all our quests, insurance is no exception; we also go to find some insurance quote by keeping in view our preferences, top of the list if “low cost.” Yes, it is good to avail low-cost services; however, most of the times, such low cost ventures cost you double. There are certain very crucial factors that must be kept in mind while going into a contract with any insurance company. Reliability is the key to success; your insurance must be there to support your needs when you are in real need. Fortunately all the insurance companies are regulated by the State insurance department, need to be licensed and so they have to follow the State insurance norms and guideliness for operations and so all the insurance companies which are operating in your State are well monitored. They are reliable. This is unfortunately one of the limitation for an agent who is either a representative of one insurance company and hence sells only products of this particular insurance company or certain companies only and thus the comparision of the insurance companies is made a big story and deal by them.
Online business are also regulated by the FTC which is has brought in new regulations for all affiliates for disclosure in 2010. This is a governed market even by FTC and google, thus the consumer has nothing to fear online except the hackers.

When you go for online auto insurance quotes, you will get to compare auto insurance from mostly all the insurance companies of your State at one go. This will give you a chance to get the best car insurance coverage and you will not have to waste your time again and again.

Enjoy the holiday season and get low car insurance rates with online auto insurance quotes.

Julie Perry : I am constantly hearing that you need to compare auto insurance quotes, can you tell me what collision insurance is and how to compare this between different insurance companies.

Response : Julie, yes, I know that every blog post or online article is screaming the headline Compare auto insuranceor Compare car insurance” and so any person would naturally think that this is just a way for the marketer to make money or to get information of the client. Believe me, this information can be easily got in many other ways. However, this is a great tip which is over used, but a good one since it can save you money. What is more only the customer is most aware of what he or she wants and therefore you should be educated? I honestly believe that just like driving lessons, the basics of car insurance should be taught to each individual.

Well, let me explain collision insurance. Collision insurance is an important own damage coverage for auto insurance. This is for your car. Supposing you buy a new car, go for your business meeting and park your car in your client’s premises. Someone in the parking lot collides with your car and damages it. This is when collision coverage will pay you for the damages. In its simplest definition, collision auto insurance protects the driver financially in the event of an auto accident that causes damage to one’s auto. Auto insurance pays for damages incurred to the car in a collision, minus deductible. Collision would also pay if you collide with another car or auto. Remember that pothole damage to your car is also considered collision damage. For collision there will be a minimum deductible amount and if you want to waive this you will have to pay a higher premium.

Collision auto insurance can cover a wide range of circumstances. For example, damage to one’s car as the result of striking a telephone pole, driving into a cement pillar in an underground parking lot, or a hit and run accident while the car is parked in a parking lot.

Julie, all insurance companies will have the same coverage for collision auto insurance but the only thing that you need to compare for this coverage is the auto insurance rates and discounts for opting for higher deductible. The second important thing you need to pay attention is and compare auto insurance policy is for the condition of settlement of claim for collison since this might differ from each company. Some settle on actual cash loss basis while some settle on market value basis.

I am sure now you do not hate the words “compare auto insurance quote or compare auto insurance rates, or compare auto insurance coverage and fully understand what they mean.
Thanks.
Kamlesh.

Andy Jenkins: My auto insurance policy is due for renewal in January 2010. Are there any changes and new tips to compare car insurance quotes online in the New Year? Will there be any changes in the auto insurance business?

Response : An excellent question. The good news is that the New Year is going to give you a gift in the form of auto insurance discounts and low auto insurance rates if you compare auto insurance quotes.

Yes, insurance field is very dynamic and any changes in the life-style, environment or technology would bring in changes in the insurance. Auto insurance is also dynamic and you need to be aware of the changes to compare auto insurance quotes. This is the main aim of the blog to bring news of the insurance market and explain the same in simple logical terms to insurers so that they would benefit from this.

Here is the latest news on the 14th December 2009 from the Insurance Information Institute by the Vice President Loretta Worters. As declared by them the insurance industry is encouraging the ” going green” better technology and changes for the environment. More than 600 innovative, eco-friendly products and services are now offered by 244 insurers, reinsurers, brokers and insurance organizations in 29 states; of which 37 percent of those activities come from U.S. companies.

These changes are also brought about in the car insurance ratings and auto insurance quotes. The next year when you sit to compare auto insurance quote or compare car insurance quotes keep in mind the two points:
1) Pay as You Drive (PAYD) insurance programs. More than 24 insurers now offer PAYD programs in which a device or sensor is attached to your car and it would keep track of the miles you drive, your speed and your driving. One of them very much advertised and implemented latest in Ohio is by the Progressive insurance company. There are many similar programs like this which use different devices like the GPS system, which are web-based or collect readings from the odometer or use different technologies. The information is then used to reward policyholders who drive fewer miles than the average driver by providing them with discounts. You will have to compare auto insurance quotes after agreeing to use any of the devices depending upon the usage of your car, the technology you are comfortable with and also your own driving habits.
2) Hybrid discounts. If you are thinking of changing your car than it would be best if you would go for a hybrid car since you will save on your auto insurance premium. Some auto insurance companies offer premium discounts up to 10 percent for those who drive hybrid vehicles. I will let you know which are the safe cars in my next blog post.
You will be able to compare auto insurance quotes and also obtain a low auto insurance rate online.

Kim Roach :I am looking for low auto insurance rates online but I do not know how to compare my auto insurance policy, can you please help me?

Response : I agree with you Kim, you need to know what is it that you are going to compare when you compare auto insurance rates online. Please see my earlier post on review auto insurance coverage. In order to compare car insurance quotes or to review car insurance coverages. you first need to know what your own auto insurance policy is providing. For this it is necessary to read your own auto insurance policy.

Your car insurance policy is a legal contract, so at first glance it can seem confusing. But, if you know what to look for and where to find it, your policy becomes a lot easier to understand. Each auto and homeowners insurance policy has three standard parts:
Declarations Page. This is where you’ll find your name, a statement of the policy period during which you are covered and the amount of premium you pay. The “dec” page also includes a description of the insurance coverage provided and gives the maximum dollar limit the insurer will pay for a claim under each coverage.
You need to see the coverages mentioned here and the lmits of each of them . For eg Liability coverage will be mentioned showing you a bifurcation for Bodily injury and Property damage coverage.
Insuring Agreement. This is the main part of the policy. It describes what the insurance company will do in exchange for the premium you’re paying. The insuring agreement will also say who is covered: The persons named as insureds on the declarations page, residents of the same household and persons using the car with the permission of the insured. Everything is spelled out specifically in an attempt to avoid misunderstanding. Read the definitions section and the list of exclusions that apply to each coverage. Its vital that you know what you are covered for and what you are not covered for when you need to use your coverage!

Conditions of the policy. This last section describes your responsibilities when you have a claim, for example how much time you have to report it and what documentation you must give to the insurance company. It also explains the terms for canceling your policy—both for you and the insurer. You can cancel your policy at any time, however your insurance provider may only cancel under certain conditions and with advance notice to you.
Exclusions of the auto insurance policy : Some auto insurance policy will have specific exclusions that will tell you what is excluded from scope of the policy. If the exclusions are not mentioned than the scope of the coverage needs to be re-read again so that you understand what is excatly covered. Once you know and have reviewed what you have you will find it easy to understand how to compare auto insurance quotes online.
Thanks.
Have a great day.
